SOUPOR BOWL HITS RECORD FOR FUNDRAISING
REVERSE RAFFLE WINNER DONATES BACK ENTIRE $10,000 PRIZE
GRAFTON — The Grafton Education Foundation (GEF) hit a new record for its 7th annual GEF/US Bank Soupor Bowl event netting $55,000 for the education foundation. The new high (38% greater than last year) was thanks in part to the unexpected news that the big winner of the Reverse Raffle was donating back the grand prize of $10,000. The money will be used to match funds raised to build a new school store at Grafton High School. The Hawks Nest project will be created and designed by students for the entire community. Fundraising for the Hawks Nest school store began during the Soupor Bowl, during which $5,085 was raised. The goal is to raise another $5,000 by March 15. That amount will then be doubled by the $10,000 in matching funds donated by the Reverse Raffle winner to reach the $20,000 needed to build the store. Donations will be accepted through the GEF website www.GraftonEducationFoundation.org
“We are beyond thrilled and grateful for the community’s generous support of the Soupor Bowl this year,” said Chris Hogan, President of the Grafton Education Foundation. “We were shocked to learn that our Reverse Raffle winners wanted to donate back the entire grand prize. Del and Kristi Creps are from Colorado and told us they have relatives who attend Grafton schools. They wanted to give back to a district that they know is doing great things. They thought the school store was a fantastic idea and they wanted to help make it a reality.”
GEF/US Bank Soupor Bowl fundraising also benefitted from the unique items made from reclaimed wood from the Grafton Elementary School gymnasium which were sold during the silent auction. Professional carpenter Jake Knox and students from Grafton High School’s industrial arts program made coffee tables, boot boxes, coat racks, picture frames and gym floor replicas.
200 people attended the GEF/US Bank Soupor Bowl which featured soup sampling from several local restaurants. Attendees voted for their favorites in three categories: "Fan Favorite" went to the Anvil Pub & Grille for Beer, Brat & Cheese Soup, "Most Inventive" went to NSeven for Wild Harvest Soup, and "Most Like Mom’s" went to Atlas BBQ for Southwest Smoked Chicken Soup.
Many thanks to volunteers from US Bank, GHS Leo Club, and Grafton School District Staff who worked at the event.
The Soupor Bowl was held January 26 at Cedars III. Sponsors include US Bank, Donahue & Associates, Grafton Orthodontics, The Kids Dentist, Ram Tool Inc., Newman Chevrolet, Freedom Physical Therapy, Mantel Orthodontics, Sendik’s, The Fermentorium, Village Point Commons, Holton Brothers, Grafton Chamber of Commerce, Mueller Funeral Homes and Jeff & Jo Maehl.
Fund-A-Need
One of the great ways our community comes together during the US Bank Soupor Bowl is our Fund-A-Need portion of the evening. Every year the Grafton Education Foundation finds a need for Grafton Schools that may not be covered by grants or school dollars. In the past, the Fund-A- Need has helped purchase ChromeBooks, classroom furniture, and more! This year the Fund-A-Need is going to support the new Hawk's Nest at Grafton High School!
